One striking peculiarity of the modern times is globalisation. The age when people group themselves together based on the similarity of their ethnic and religious inclinations and avoid constant dealings with others - save when they chose to - is gone for good. A great deal of changes has occurred in this world; largely attributable to colonialism, industrialisation, wars, and the cosmopolitan outlook of modern societies.
