If there is anything that hinders the Nigerian government from being able to contain and eliminate security threats such as the one currently posed by remnants of the radical religious sect in Maiduguri, it is the attitude of not tolerating criticism of its policies and the proclivity to pretend there are no problems when there are glaring evidence of such problems. For as long as the government will not accept people's views regarding its policies and look for genuine public opinion – genuine and not ones gathered from people randomly picked by those around the political leaders – it will be a grave mistake
